Dr. Ilknur Tugal-Tutkun is a Professor of Ophthalmology at Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine and Director of the Uveitis Service at the Department of Ophthalmology. Dr. Tugal-Tutkun received an MD from Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1984 and completed a residency in ophthalmology at the same institution in 1991. She completed fellowship training at the Ocular Immunology and Uveitis Service, Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary in 1994-1995.
She is a member of the International Ocular Inflammation Society, International Uveitis Study Group, American Uveitis Society, the Society for Ophthalmo-Immunoinfectiology in Europe, and the International Society for Behcet’s Disease.
She has published more than 130 articles in peer-reviewed international journals.
BMedSc, MD (Hons), PhD, FEBOphth graduated from the University of Ancona Medical School in 2000. He obtained a specialist diploma in ophthalmology at the University of Ancona in 2004 and his PhD in neuroscience in 2007.
Dr Neri was Honorary Research Fellow in Uveitis at the Eye Department, University of Aberdeen, scientist visitor at the University of Tübingen and Visiting Professor at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. In 2010 he was named Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Polytechnic University of Marche-Ancona.
Dr Neri was honorary clinical ocular immunology consultant and medical retina consultant at the Ospedali Riuniti “Umberto I-GM Lancisi-G Salesi” of Ancona. He acted as director of the Ocular Immunology Service at the Ospedali Riuniti “Umberto I-GM Lancisi-G Salesi” of Ancona since 2007. In 2018, Dr Neri has joined Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi as Clinical Associate for Medical Retina and Director of the Uveitis Service. Dr Neri is also Faculty member of Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western University-Cleveland Ohio-USA as Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology.
Dr Neri is member of the Italian Ophthalmology Society (SOI), the International Ocular Inflammation Society (IOIS), the European Society of Retina Specialists (EURETINA), International Uveitis Study Group (IUSG) and the European Association for Vision and Eye Research (EVER). He is also the Secretary General of the Society for Ophthalmo-Immunoinfectiology in Europe (SOIE) since 2008. Dr Neri has served EVER as Section Program Secretary for Immunology/Microbiology Section since 2010 and became Section President in 2016.
Dr Neri is also listed in the panel of the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) of the European Medicine Agency (EMA) and of Italian Pharmaceutical Agency (AIFA).
Dr Neri is author and co-author of more than 120 national and international publications, including original articles, editorials, reviews, book chapters, monographs and abstracts. Dr Neri acts as Editor-in-Chief of International Ophthalmology, as Associate Editor of BMC Ophthalmology and as Reviewing Editor of Ocular Immunology and Inflammation. He is also reviewer of: International Ophthalmology, Ocular Immunology and Inflammation, Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging, British Journal of Ophthalmology, Acta Ophthalmologica Scandinavica, Indian Journal of Ophthalmology, Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science, Clinical Ophthalmology, Middle East and Asian Journal of Ophthalmology, Graefes Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology and Retina, among the others.
Dr Neri’s areas of specialization include ocular inflammation, auto-immunity, immunosuppression, ocular infections, retinal vascular diseases, diabetic retinopathy, age related macular degeneration and pathophysiology of choroidal neovascular process.
Carlos Eduardo Pavésio

Dr Carlos Pavesio is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon for the Medical Retinal Service at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, UK. He was the Medical Retina Service Director between 2008 and 2016. He is also an honorary Clinical Lecturer and Uveitis theme leader for the Biomedical Research Centre, Institute of Ophthalmology, London and Honorary Consultant Ophthalmologist at St Thomas’s Hospital in London. He has just been appointed Director of the Fellowship Programme at Moorfields Eye Hospital.
Dr Pavesio is a member of many international ophthalmological societies, including IOIS (International Ocular Inflammation Society), IUSG (International Uveitis Study Group) and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He was a board member for the SOE and EUPO (European Union of Professors of Ophthalmology).
For more than 10 years he has been the organiser of the Uveitis Programme for EURETINA and SOE, apart from having organised more than 10 International Uveitis Courses, both in the UK and abroad.
He has given more than 300 lectures both in the UK and Internationally. He was visiting Professor of Ophthalmology in New Zealand in 2009 and HMDP Visiting Expert in Ophthalmology – Uveitis, Intraocular Inflammation, Medical Retina in Singapore in 2014. He has also been a faculty member for the Cole Eye Institute Uveitis Course held annually in Cleveland, USA.
Dr Pavesio is the Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Ophthalmic Inflammation and Infection and a member of the editorial board of the British Journal of Ophthalmology, Ocular Immunology and Inflammation, International Ophthalmology, and Journal of Ocular Infections and Inflammation and Ophthalmology. He has authored more than 10 book chapters and over 160 peer-reviewed publications in the field.

Dr. Pia Allegri is the Director of the Uveitis and Eye Inflammatory Diseases Referral Centre in North Western of Italy and Ophthalmological Department at Rapallo Hospital (Genova, Italy) . Kazuichi Maruyama, Osaka, Japan
Dr. Kazuichi Maruyama is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Osaka University, Chief of the Uveitis Service at the Department of Ophthalmology. Dr. Maruyama received his MD from Kanazawa Medical University in 1998 and completed his residency in ophthalmology at Kyoto 2nd Red Cross Hospital in 2000. He completed a post doctoral fellowship training at the Kyoto Prefecture University of Medicine and at Harvard Medical School, Schepens Eye Research Institute in 2003-2006. He has been elected councilor of the Japanese Ocular Immunology Society (JOIS) since 2019. He is also Adjunct Scientist at the Shepens Eye Research Institute since 2006.
